LISBON LINES

Lisbon has been sitting in my memory ever since I visited back in 2006.

From the very beginning, I knew these designs had to be black and white. The city practically insists on it. Lisbon’s calçada portuguesa pavements, with their intricate stone mosaics, are a kind of living artwork – graphic, geometric, and endlessly surprising. They became the natural foundation for the patterns.

At the same time, Lisbon Lines is also an homage to one of my great artistic loves: German Expressionist woodcuts of the early 20th century. I’ve always been drawn to their raw contrast and directness, the way a scene is carved down to essentials – line, light, rhythm. Translating Lisbon through that visual language felt right.

The result is a collection that blends travel and art history:

– winding trams and cobbled streets

– bottles of port and fresh sardines on a table

– peacocks in garden courtyards

– the pulse of Fado song

– and the hypnotic geometry of stone and tile underfoot

These designs celebrate Lisbon’s graphic spirit in patterns and vignettes that slip easily into modern life. You’ll see them come alive across home décor, textiles, stationery, and everyday objects. Black and white keeps the look timeless, bold, and versatile – just like the city itself.

Lisbon Lines is a love letter — to a city that shaped my eye, and to an art form that has long inspired my work. It’s about finding beauty in line and contrast, in memory and place, and letting those elements flow into design.
