This collection started like a lot of things do for me – a bit of playtime in Procreate.
I was just messing around with brushes and kept doodling suns. They were bold, spiky, swirly, full of energy – and I loved how they looked all together on the screen.
Right away, I thought of Mediterranean tiles. I’ve always loved the the blue and white Portuguese azulejos, so that was the direction from the beginning. I imagined these little sun motifs as tile designs, but with a more organic, hand-painted feel.
So I took them off the iPad and reworked them as watercolor paintings in Photoshop. That’s when they really came alive. The texture, the looseness, the bleed of color and adding a kind of sun-soaked warmth. They are a set of sunny, splashy tiles with a coastal vibe. All a bit different, but all tied together by that glowing, solar energy.
Summer Blaze is a collection of hand-painted sun tile patterns, inspired by traditional azulejos but reimagined with a playful twist. Think modern coastal tiles, sunny watercolor motifs, and bold blue and white designs perfect for fabric, wallpaper, and art prints.
